In the UK “Diamond Geezer” is a relatively common expression meaning that someone is a good or reliable person, it is an informal or humorous “Cockney” term. It implies one who can be counted on, who won’t let you down, who won’t lose his nerve in a crisis and will come through for you. So here is a snuggly afghan for your very own “Diamond Geezer”. Designed for him to snuggle under on the sofa, and maybe even let you share. 🙂

I often see people asking for a more masculine blanket or throw, so when the guys at Deramores asked me to design something with their gorgeous new Tweedy yarn [which is now discontinued], I knew it had to be something for those wonderful, men who support and encourage us crazy hookers.

This manly throw is rectangular, with one large square, worked in the round, and then four  smaller squares joined at each end with a very simple Whip Stitch join.
You can find a photo tutorial for the Whip Stitch Join HERE and a video tutorial HERE.

There is also a photo and video tutorial for the Cable Stitch.

Tweedy was a double knit weight yarn, but thicker than your average DK, it worked up beautifully with a 4.5mm hook, unfortunately Deramores have now discontinued this range of yarn.

 Finished size: 55 inches/140cm x 77 inches/195cm

Mellissa has recently made Diamond Geezer-ghan in Stylecraft Special Double Knitting
C1- Grape x 2 (295 meters per ball)
C2- Grey x 4 (295 meters per ball)
C3- Denim x 5 (295 meters per ball)
C4- White x 2 (295 meters per ball)
C5- Midnight x 4 (295 meters per ball)

4mm G hook used.

Finished size: 40 inches/102cm x 58 inches/147cm
Note: Mellissa’s tension is quite tight and you may find the project comes up a similar size to the one made by Ineke.

Mellissa’s Ravelry project page.

We wanted to create a new colourway and even with the grape which is a soft smokey pink it has a very manly feel to the colours, but this would be easy to substitute for a red or mustard or any colour your man would like.

Ineke used : Saskia of the Wibra 8ply, with a 4mm hook.

Yardage per ball 260mtr/284.339 yards
9     x       Colour 1           Beige                 0076
6      x      Colour 2           Dark Brown   98392

 Finished size: 51 inches/130cm x 77 inches/195cm

Ineke alternated the colours when the pattern said to join new colour, only row 6 is the same colour as row 5

Melissa used Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn, with a 5.5mm hook.
C1- Ivory x 1 (355 yards per ball)
C2- Light Gray x 3 (355 yards per ball)
C3- Greybeard x 4 (355 yards per ball)
C4- Soft Blue x 1 (355 yards per ball)
C5- I Love This Yarn Stonewash Dark Gray x 5 (252 yards per ball)

 Finished size: 60 inches/152cm x 84 inches/213cm

Melissa chose these colours to complement her husbands “Bug”.
